Radars are active systems in that they generate and transmit their own waveforms. This active characteristic allows radar systems to provide effective day and night operation, a capability not typically available with optical systems which rely on an external source of electromagnetic radiation at optical wavelengths. This combination of full time functionality with the ability of radar wavelengths to penetrate clouds, dust and other materials, has allowed radar remote sensing to establish itself as a powerful and versatile technique with applicability to a broad range of end uses ranging through earth observation, environmental monitoring, traffic control, and military surveillance.
This course presents an introduction to radar and radar signal processing. Following topics are covered:
Tutorial problems are solved using Matlab. Different aspects of radar signal processing are investigated:
Through active participation in this course, students
Basic knowledge in signal processing is required for this course.
